I’ve struggled to sleep this week under/on top of my 13.5 tog goose down duvet. Suddenly it’s summer and my bed is not ready! Having just previewed the new Bedeck bed linen range in collaboration with Joules, I’m now feeling a little inspired to sort out my bedroom, dig out the summer duvet and change the sheets. Although this is an AW12 collection, I think the country-style prints are suitable summery and are available from mid-August. Take a peek…

Spring flowers…

April 13, 2012

I’ve just spent a few days in the West Country skipping around like a sprightly spring lamb. The fresh air was wondrous and I was amazed by the amount of daffodils bloomin’ everywhere. In my attempt to bring a little bit of the country back to the city, I picked daffodils from my Mother’s garden and gathered whatever greenery I could scrounge from the local hedgerows, along the Devon lanes. I decided to display them in the many jam jars I have collected over the years, I normally use these as tea light holders but with a bit of ribbon they looked suitably pretty for my little floral arrangements that are now dotted ALL over my house…

If you’re looking for a similar weekend project then this is all you need:

1. A selection of glass jars or any other interesting glass receptacles! If you don’t have many kicking about at home try The Jam Jar Shop for all sorts of shapes and sizes or raid your local car boot/charity shop for old glass bottles.

2. Scraps of ribbon, baker’s twine, brown string..whatever you fancy (I used a selection of ribbons in yellows/creams to keep to a co-ordinated colour scheme.

3. A selection of cut spring flowers from your garden, florist or supermarket and greenery.

If only my house had the same look as the lovely new online lifestyle shop Rowen & Wren. Everything is wonderfully co-ordinated, beautifully styled and quite frankly all items are (annoyingly) utterly LOVELY. Obviously, there is an awful lot I ‘need’ to make my life more complete. So, in sharing with you a selection of their wares I found the editing process a tricky task in itself, as it’s all so darn delightful, but here are a few of my favourites from their new Spring collection…

I love this sunny hand printed bird cushion and the rustic glass houses below with handsome leather straps would be perfect for the alfalfa sprouts I’m encouraging to germinate on my kitchen window sill!

I love the denim blues mixed with natural textures, the Swedish teapot with wooden saucer and the tactile earthenware jars/bowls with wooden lids/plates are such a good design, if not a little pricey (£108 each!). Eeeek, wouldn’t want to drop one of those.

Elsewhere, there are cosy Welsh blankets and note the sweet little Trook Hooks (made from wood wastage), now they’re only £9 each!

I’m a big fan of metal trunks and love this bottle green colour that I’ve not seen anywhere else…

They have a really good range of furniture and lighting too.  Their collection is split into three different looks depending on your style. Happy browsing folks. Let me know what catches your eye and tempts you to buy. Have a sunny weekend and don’t forget the clocks go forward on Sunday. British Summertime here we come! – Alice

Oh, woe is me. My IKEA Ektorp ‘Blekkinge White’ three-seater sofa is more like an Ektorp ‘Blekkinge Grubby Yellow’ three-seater these days with black cat hairs, muddy paw prints and red wine stains (!) to complete the overall effect of minging-ness. The practical solution of course, would be to buy a cover in a grey or a black – much more sensible – and I wouldn’t have to wash and iron the bloomin’ things every month. But Bemz has just created a range of loose-fit, linen shabby-chic style covers for the big IKEA ranges and I’m completely smitten with the white one…

These new pure linen covers are available for the Ektorp, Tomelilla and Nikkala sofa ranges as well as the Henriksdal dining chairs and, until Thursday, you can get 10% off all of them – which means I’m really tempted. My living room would look fantastic with a new, crisp, white linen sofa cover…for a few days, anyway! Have a lovely weekend. – Ellie

The big day…

October 9, 2009

Everyone needs an extra splash of inspiration on a Friday, so with Ellie on holiday for her birthday, your daily dose of loveliness comes courtesy of me! It’s eerily quiet in at Ideal Home HQ today and I’m slinking off this afternoon too to help my lovely friend Emma choose a dress for her New Forest wedding next summer. Since she announced her engagement I have taken the liberty of bestowing upon myself the role of Chief Styling and Prettiness Consultant and have been emailing her links to wedding blogs for inspiration. In the past, I would have considered myself something of a mood board master, but no more! These wedding bloggers must certainly take that title – just check out some of these amazing offerings from three of my favourites…
