HAPPY NEW YEAR! It’s the second day back in the office for Ideal Home and after trawling through hundreds of emails (whilst trying to resist the urge to gorge on any left over Christmas choccies) I stumbled across a little cheery news. The Queen of Prints, aka, Orla Kiely, has created a lovely garden accessories range for Wild & Wolf – perfect for Spring 2012. There are enamel pots in varying sizes, a trowel and fork with wooden handles (note the Orla Kiely logo embossed in the wood, nice touch) and a gorgeous flask all in her 70’s inspired petal print in orange, olive and blue. A little something for the birthday wish list, me thinks. Available on line soon. – Alice

Grow your own veg

March 10, 2009

I’ve just discovered a useful new website called Seed to Plate. It’s designed to make growing vegetables easier than ever – great news for a novice gardener like me! I’ve just got an allotment so I’ll be needing all the help I can get.

The site asks you three basic questions: What food do you like to eat? How much space do you have? How much time can you realistically spare each week? Enter this information, then the website takes seconds to process it before coming back with the perfect plot for you. It shows you dimensions and a planting layout to follow.

picture-31You can edit your plot by removing any veg you don’t like, then Seed to Plate will devise a personalised sowing/harvesting calendar so you know what to do and when to do it. There’s also an online shop where you can buy everything you’ll need for your new plot. It’s not just for allotment owners – even if you’ve just got a balcony or a couple of window boxes, you can use this clever site to make the most of what you’ve got. Right, where are my gardening gloves? And I’ll be needing my not-necessarily-essential-but-gorgeous vintage trug, naturally… – Ellie
