Millions of people will be embracing all things Jubilee this weekend. B&Q have reported sales of 100,000 metres of union jack bunting and 3,100 gnomes (who buys those!?). 10,000 streets will be closed for celebrations and I’m gonna bake a Victoria sponge, eat it and wash it down with a jug of Pimms. Hurrah! For months leading up to this weekend we homes journos have been bombarded with patriotic memorabilia and homeware that’s not gonna be available for much longer, so buy it now! (Or wait til Tuesday when it’ll all be reduced). There’s a lot of tat out there but also some rather nice things that I felt worthy of a blog post. Here’s my pick of some of the best jooby booty. Have a jolly weekend! – Alice

I’ve struggled to sleep this week under/on top of my 13.5 tog goose down duvet. Suddenly it’s summer and my bed is not ready! Having just previewed the new Bedeck bed linen range in collaboration with Joules, I’m now feeling a little inspired to sort out my bedroom, dig out the summer duvet and change the sheets. Although this is an AW12 collection, I think the country-style prints are suitable summery and are available from mid-August. Take a peek…

If only my house had the same look as the lovely new online lifestyle shop Rowen & Wren. Everything is wonderfully co-ordinated, beautifully styled and quite frankly all items are (annoyingly) utterly LOVELY. Obviously, there is an awful lot I ‘need’ to make my life more complete. So, in sharing with you a selection of their wares I found the editing process a tricky task in itself, as it’s all so darn delightful, but here are a few of my favourites from their new Spring collection…

I love this sunny hand printed bird cushion and the rustic glass houses below with handsome leather straps would be perfect for the alfalfa sprouts I’m encouraging to germinate on my kitchen window sill!

I love the denim blues mixed with natural textures, the Swedish teapot with wooden saucer and the tactile earthenware jars/bowls with wooden lids/plates are such a good design, if not a little pricey (£108 each!). Eeeek, wouldn’t want to drop one of those.

Elsewhere, there are cosy Welsh blankets and note the sweet little Trook Hooks (made from wood wastage), now they’re only £9 each!

TESCO DIRECT: SS12 PREVIEW

January 8, 2012

Now then, I thought you might like to know, Tesco Direct are introducing some rather covetable homewares next season. Available from February onwards, here’s a little preview of their best pieces (in my humble opinion) and I have to admit, at first glance I thought this mid-century-esque sideboard was a ‘stylist’s own’ situation, but oh no…

Tesco, retro, oak, sideboard, SS2012, homeware, furniture, mid-century, mid-century style, ideal home, homeshoppingspy, alice humphrys

Retro Oak veneered sideboard, £229; Cream barrel vase, £5.

..it’s theirs! I love the handles and at only £229 it gives Ercol a run for their money. Perhaps less about quality craftsmanship but a great ‘get the look for less’ option! Elsewhere, you’ll find cute ceramic tea light holders in the form of rather podgy, but friendly owls. I do appreciate the rustic shelving and apple green bakers twine too…

F&F Home ceramic owl tealight holder, £6 each.

Other home accessories include these gorgeously glossy picture frames in teal and plummy shades, statement ikat cushions, bottle vases and chunky woven throws…

From top: 5x7cm gloss frames, £7 each; teal ikat cushion, £10; bottle vase, £4; teal check throw, £15.

And if you’re looking for something a little fresh and more Spring-like this armchair in a citrus retro print is quite the number. It’s looks very at home on the white wooden floorboards with natural linen blinds…

But, I’ve got my eye on this stunning silver anglepoise style lamp for only £18!

Let us take a momentary pause from all things wintry to admire the new H&M SS 2012 tea towel designs. Who would have thought these 50 x 70cm pieces of cloth could bring such joy? As a homes journalist I have accumulated quite a substantial heap; I might have to start framing them on the wall…

From a mere £3.99 a piece, they’re without a doubt the nicest and most affordable I’ve seen on the high street. Available on line and in store soon. Which one’s your favourite? – Alice

SNEAKY PEEK: H&M Christmas

September 13, 2010

Oh, H&M, you are naughty. Just when I am TRYING to control my excitement about the imminent launch of your online home accessories store (September 16th, circle it – just three days to go), you casually drop me an email full of Christmas images to tease and tantalise, nay, TORTURE me all over again…with never a thought of the gibbering, shivering WRECK I would become when faced with this gallimaufry of consumer delights:

Look at that hare stocking! Look at that woodland tea towel! Look at that ‘Home Made Bakery’ tea towel! Look! Look! LOOK!

And don’t even get me started on that ‘Good night’ pillow complete with a bird wearing a top hat. Sometimes, it’s all too much.

I love the Rob Ryan-esque place mats, and this enormous fabric bag for ‘standard’ presents!

If you’re a fan of nut nibblers and glittery bunnies, then this collection has certainly got the woodland thang going on in a big way. I. Just. Cannot. WAIT. ANY. LONGER. I leave you with this ‘cinnamon sack’ cushion. ‘Nuff said. – Ellie.
