Anthropologie: tribal time

January 5, 2011

Let’s be honest. There’s only so many ways you can shoot rugs, bedding and towels. In a room. On the floor. In a pile. Hanging on a wall. Yadda yadda. I’d love to have been in the brain-storming meeting when a stylist wrote: “just kind of drape them over some old cars” on the spider diagram…

But, as the new Anthropologie catalogue demonstrates, it works. And the retro American neutral backdrop makes the oh-so-tribal, oh-so-2011 African-inspired prints and patterns really POP:

These eye-wateringly bright colour combos are just the ticket on a gloomy January day like today – check out the new Pavo and Yoruba bed linen designs below – tribal-tastic!

Stunning African-inspired designs are all over the catwalks as well as the homeware collections – it looks as though 2011 is going to be a riot of colour! – Ellie

So, yesterday, I was getting all breathless about the new H&M Home online range launching this autumn in the UK, and we had a little look at some of the highlights. Well, I now have a whole CD of pretty pics, and there are a few more bargain buys I just HAVE to share with you all…

How much would you pay for the stunning SEL DE MER cushion cover, top left? It looks like it’s been made from a vintage salt sack. It’s gorgeous. It’s classy. And at H&M, it’s going to be…just £7.99. Bargainous. The OATS & CO tea towel, top right, could be framed for retro wall art, or sewn into a cushion cover by a crafter – and it’s just £2.99. And how cute is that LAUNDRY SERVICE bag, just £12.99? Sorry to bang on about this collection two days running, but it’s basically my new favourite range. Please bear with me if vintage sacks are not your thang…normal service will resume shortly! – Ellie

Day Birger goes global

April 29, 2010

Good news, trend-setters: As from August, you’ll be able to order home accessories straight from the Day Birger et Mikkelson website, so getting a slice of rather tasty Danish style will be easier than ever before.

Wanna see what Autumn/Winter has in store? Let’s get poetic. It IS Thursday, after all. Picture a bleak, wind-swept plain, if you will. Wintery, leafless branches twist and curl like arthritic fingers across the barren sky. Somewhere, in the distance, a wolf howls. The air is frosty – crisp and sharp as a knife. Think plush velvet accessories in moody blues, and a creaky old house full of magic and gothic glamour…

Oh dear. Clearly I’ve had a bit too much caffeine! I love the cameo artwork in these shots…

…I’ve got a real thing for old keys, so the silhouette of keys above caught my eye – but I’m not sure my paper-cutting skills are up to recreating it. This next idea, however, is much simpler! Take a nail. Take a key. Hang key on nail. Et voila:

I’m loving these pictures – so gothic, so wintery – with a bit of Alice-in-Wonderland-chic thrown in for good measure. Check out this beady-eyed little crow guarding his collection of gorgeous candlesticks:

This isn’t a brand new pic, but it’s too cool to leave out. I expect Sibella Court‘s a fan of this range:

Remember, if you plant a single cushion…
