HAPPY NEW YEAR! It’s the second day back in the office for Ideal Home and after trawling through hundreds of emails (whilst trying to resist the urge to gorge on any left over Christmas choccies) I stumbled across a little cheery news. The Queen of Prints, aka, Orla Kiely, has created a lovely garden accessories range for Wild & Wolf – perfect for Spring 2012. There are enamel pots in varying sizes, a trowel and fork with wooden handles (note the Orla Kiely logo embossed in the wood, nice touch) and a gorgeous flask all in her 70’s inspired petal print in orange, olive and blue. A little something for the birthday wish list, me thinks. Available on line soon. – Alice

NEW: Orla Kiely radio

October 13, 2010

Last night, we popped along to the launch of a new radio. But this was no ordinary radio. It was an Orla Kiely radio.

Cath Kidston did it with Roberts. Now Orla’s done it with Pure. Covered in her signature stem print, with a sleek wooden case and a beautiful, shiny chrome handle, it looked fabulous perched on the retro sideboard in Orla’s shop. But it would look good pretty much anywhere. Especially if you surround it with Orla’s colourful notebooks and position it in front of a dark grey wall. As seen above. Sigh. It’s available from Orla Kiely now and will be in John Lewis from November onwards. – Ellie

NEW Orla Kiely range

July 22, 2010

Oooh la la! Here’s a little peek at the new Orla Kiely kitchenware range, due to be stocked at the likes of BlissHome and John Lewis later this summer…

If you’re an Orla fan like me, this could all prove a little bit too exciting…

Don’t you just love that yellow storage pot? I’d like three for tea, coffee and sugar. SIGH. – Ellie

Chalkboard calendar wall

July 30, 2009

Turn your diary into a style statement with this amazing feature wall idea from our September issue. Our cunning stylists mixed blackboard paint (£10.99 for 750ml, International Paints) with white matt emulsion to achieve different shades of grey for a chequer board effect – fabulous!

BlackBoardWall_00011I’ve recently painted a blackboard panel in our kitchen and it’s the best decorating decision I’ve ever made. It’s so handy for recipes, shopping lists, reminders and romantic messages to my other half such as: ‘Empty the dishwasher!’ Blackboard buys are everywhere at the moment, so you don’t have to limit yourself to writing on walls…

chalkyI like the mugs above from Really Linda Barker – good for labelling mugs in offices so you can remember how everybody likes their tea and whose is whose! The blackboard Matryoshka dolls are going to be on sale in Muji later this year in time for Christmas – what a great stocking filler – and the storage boxes with blackboard panels are available now from Store. – Ellie

Feeling fruity?

May 13, 2009

Apples and pears (not in a Cockney rhyming slang way…) are  popping up all over the autumn/winter 09 high street collections, so here’s a sneaky peek of things to come! We blogged about the tasty Tesco tableware with fruit patterns last week, and now we’ve seen these cute apple and pear accessories at the Next press show – they’re due to hit shops in September. I love it when a trend comes together!

applesI can’t help thinking that these apple-tastic high-street pieces might be inspired by Orla Kiely‘s iconic apple and pear designs, which are, of course, delicious:
