March 28, 2012

Laurie Robertson and Co. are a busy bunch and their Anorak collection just keeps on growing. Following on from their fab Spring prints, Binoculars and Canoes, they’ve just launched this week a rather nice range of cheery bath towels. If you can’t get enough of their cute animal prints then check them out now!

Coastal style is always a big look for Spring/Summer. Every year at Ideal Home we’re inundated with ideas, products and everyone’s different take on the trend. It’s an easy look to live with; breezy blues, crisps whites, nautical stripes, distressed wood, driftwood accessories, fisherman’s lamps…you know the sort of thing! It’s always a treat though when smaller, up-and-coming designers interpret the trend in a new way. Abigail Edwards is a freelance stylist who recently launched her own collection of hand drawn wallpapers. Her latest Seascape design is simply dreamy..

Available in black (Winter) and soft blue (Summer), the rolling waves are so soothing to look at, I could get lost in them for hours. This paper would look gorgeous in a bathroom, a downstairs loo or even on a house boat (I actually used to live on one!)

At £59 a roll, the papers are all hand drawn by Abigail and printed in Lancashire at one of the few remaining traditional wallpaper printers in the UK. When she’s not busy styling she is working on two new wallpaper designs, tiles and even table linen. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with. Happy weekend all. Spring has nearly sprung!– Alice

TESCO DIRECT: SS12 PREVIEW

January 8, 2012

Now then, I thought you might like to know, Tesco Direct are introducing some rather covetable homewares next season. Available from February onwards, here’s a little preview of their best pieces (in my humble opinion) and I have to admit, at first glance I thought this mid-century-esque sideboard was a ‘stylist’s own’ situation, but oh no…

Retro Oak veneered sideboard, £229; Cream barrel vase, £5.

..it’s theirs! I love the handles and at only £229 it gives Ercol a run for their money. Perhaps less about quality craftsmanship but a great ‘get the look for less’ option! Elsewhere, you’ll find cute ceramic tea light holders in the form of rather podgy, but friendly owls. I do appreciate the rustic shelving and apple green bakers twine too…

F&F Home ceramic owl tealight holder, £6 each.

Other home accessories include these gorgeously glossy picture frames in teal and plummy shades, statement ikat cushions, bottle vases and chunky woven throws…

From top: 5x7cm gloss frames, £7 each; teal ikat cushion, £10; bottle vase, £4; teal check throw, £15.

And if you’re looking for something a little fresh and more Spring-like this armchair in a citrus retro print is quite the number. It’s looks very at home on the white wooden floorboards with natural linen blinds…

But, I’ve got my eye on this stunning silver anglepoise style lamp for only £18!

And if you’re a fan of  Dutch clock brand, Karlsson, and looking to add a pop of colour you’ll also find the multi spider clock in their range. BOOM!

This is supermarket-chic at it’s best. Looking for more decorating ideas and stylish buys but feeling the post-Christmas pinch? The new February issue of Ideal Home is packed full of budget ideas for the home so make sure you bag yourself a copy. Out now! – Alice

Let us take a momentary pause from all things wintry to admire the new H&M SS 2012 tea towel designs. Who would have thought these 50 x 70cm pieces of cloth could bring such joy? As a homes journalist I have accumulated quite a substantial heap; I might have to start framing them on the wall…

From a mere £3.99 a piece, they’re without a doubt the nicest and most affordable I’ve seen on the high street. Available on line and in store soon. Which one’s your favourite? – Alice

Emma Bridgewater‘s famous black and white Toast design is now less black and white, and a bit more blue and green. Observe:

Isn’t it pretty? And a bit more relaxed than Emma’s smart monochrome Toast designs. Check out the fun new tea towels on the Emma Bridgewater website designed by Emma’s mother-in-law, Pat Albeck. (Make sure you read the ‘about me’ section on Pat’s website for a fascinating history of design in Britain from the 1950s onwards and some fantastic family photos!)

What else is cookin’ at Emma Bridgewater HQ? Well, the vintage Blue Hen design has been re-introduced for Easter 2010, and the children’s mugs are looking cuter than ever. My favourite’s still the Birds range, though! – Ellie

FOLK hits the high street

December 9, 2009

It’s been on the radar for a while now. Owls, squirrels, acorns, leaves… the folklore woodland trend has trickled slowly down, leaving a trail of toadstools in it’s wake, and now it’s ready to invade the nation. 2010 is set to be the year of all things Sylvan – check out this lovely bedroom image from the hot-off-the-press John Lewis spring/summer collection…

It could be a room from Snow White’s cottage! I love the 1970s-style birdy bed linen (the pattern, incidentally, looks exactly like a retro tea tray my parents own, and still use…!) – it looks fabulous with the raw timber bedside table – folky but fresh. On our rounds, we’ve spotted a massive, quirky acorn ornament and owl accessories galore at John Lewis, cute china woodland creatures including owls, rabbits and birds at Habitat, and even Tesco is getting in on the act with it’s uber-cool woodland cuckoo clock. It looks as though we’ll be seeing a lot more folk, folks. – Ellie

Well knock me down with a feather! This amazing cuckoo clock looks like a stylish and expensive designer item, but the good news is, it’s not. In fact, it’s from the spring/summer 2010 collection at…wait for it…drum roll…TESCO!

tesco cuckoo clockThat’s right, folks. Supermarket-chic is moving in to a whole new realm of excitement next season…great news if you’re a ‘style on a shoestring’ kinda gal like me! We’ve been sessioning the spring/summer press shows this week, and there are lots of exciting things on the horizon, but I just had to share this sneaky peek with you today! It’s due to hit Tesco Direct in March, for just £45. – Ellie
