Another H&M Home preview!

January 13, 2011

I can barely keep up with the designers at H&M Home – they seem to release a new collection of home accessories every few weeks! Lots of temptation in their latest offering…

I love this butterfly cushion – I think it’s been made using the Cavallini butterfly stamp set!

Other highlights include…a black cutlery silhouette tea towel (I’ve added it to the never-ending ‘turn-it-into-a-cushion’ list…), and some American-style seafood diner pieces including runners, place mats and seat cushions that are perfect for a spot of al fresco accessorising.

H&M has embraced the current trend for all things crochet/lace with Broderie Anglaise bed linen, frilly doily-effect cushions and delicate designs.

I really like the utilitarian striped tablecloths and runners with their product names and dimensions written across them: RUNNER 45 X 150. Maybe this is what was written on the blank template that the designer started with…so, lazy or genius? You decide!

There are some cheery nautical stripes going on too, and some Mediterranean-style painterly lemon and olive accessories. All very summery! – Ellie

I’ve been at the Edinburgh Festival for the past week, in sunny (no, really) Scotland. As well as seeing about a million amazing plays and comedy acts, I managed to find time to pop into a few shops, too. Thanks to my local guide, Zoe (from Conversation Pieces), I found Hannah Zakari – a lovely shop owned by jewellery-maker and all-round crafty-type, Rachael Lamb.

As well as selling her own lovely designs, Rachael stocks a mind-boggling array of home accessories and treats from other designers, including the likes of Lou Rota, Clare Nicolson and Eclectic Eccentricity. I had a lovely time browsing the shelves, but if you’re not in bonny Scotland, don’t despair – the Hannah Zakari website has even more to choose from. – Ellie

Foxy wallpaper

March 15, 2010

Good news, wallpaper addicts! Turkish company Studio Nommo has just launched an online shop and now delivers wallpaper internationally, so you don’t have to live in Istanbul to get hold of some of the coolest wallpapers around…

This new collection of papers features designs from young and inspirational designers and illustrators – it’s a real breath of fresh air. It’s hard to choose but my favourite is this magical foxy design by Ashley Alexander…it reminds me of Cole & Son’s Woods wallpaper, but with a twist! It would look great in a children’s room.

I love the way these designers treat wallpaper as a canvas for pictures…no boring repeated leaves/flower patterns in sight here…instead, you’ll find illustrations that tell stories; houses, sunbathers, typewriters, windows…

Check out this blackboard-effect computer wallpaper – who knew technology could look so good? And I’d love a feature wall of the teapots and kettles paper in my kitchen…

Pop along to the new Studio Nommo website to see the full range and explore the designers in more detail. You can also shop for gorgeous wall stickers, and design your own wallpaper by uploading an image or photo – just remember to click the ‘English’ language button on the home page, or you’ll be a bit confused by all the Turkish. Like I was. For quite some time. Oh dear… – Ellie
